How Your Cosmetic Dentist Uses Dental Veneers

Dental VeneersDental veneers have rapidly become a popular treatment option for patients visiting a cosmetic dentist. There are many great techniques and treatment options available to you as a patient of our cosmetic dentist, but even among these, dental implants manage to make an impact. Dental implants are a lower cost solution that is much easier to place without needing serious surgery or extensive treatment.

For the patients who come in looking for a way to have a better-looking smile and want quick results, dental veneers placed by your cosmetic dentist is often the best option. When we are placing dental veneers, we do not have to remove a great deal of your naturally-occurring enamel. With any device placement, there will be some level of enamel that we need to remove. In our view, the less enamel we have to remove of your natural teeth, the better it is.

Dental Implants

With dental implants, for example, we have to remove the entire tooth, including the root of the tooth, to make room for the implant and the new dental crown. In similar fashion, when patients need a dental crown to replace broken or damaged teeth from decay, we will need to remove the majority of the natural enamel.

Leaving only a nub allows us to place the crown safely, securely, and in a way that makes them look perfectly natural. When we place dental veneers, we may only need to remove the tiniest amount of enamel to ensure a good fit of the paper thin porcelain veneers. Essentially, the veneers serve to augment the tooth without having to replace good enamel, rather than focusing on shaving away damaged or discolored enamel.

Saving the natural enamel is only one of the many advantages that come with using dental implants at a cosmetic dentist. Another distinct advantage is the treatment time and recovery time, which is important to many patients.

Dental Veneers

With dental veneers, your treatment time is incredibly short. Most of the time you will get your dental veneers fitted on your second visit to the cosmetic dentist – two short visits, though the second will probably be longer as we carefully fit your custom made dental veneers. On the other hand, there are treatment options, like braces and Invisalign®. Both options can take up to a year or more to provide the results that patients want.

In cases of extreme malocclusion, crooked teeth, you will need to use an orthodontic treatment like braces to correct the problem. However, if the teeth are not that crooked, you can actually use dental veneers from your cosmetic dentist to correct this problem. In addition, there is virtually no recovery time when we place dental veneers. Thus, you will be able to use your new teeth within a few hours after the procedure.
